The End is Only the Beginning

We know that our first letter was a great starting point for our theme but of course we needed some feedback. For this we planned to perform our video letter at the theme presentation in front of everyone and listen to what they all have to say, hopefully this will give us some going tips.

In order to get people’s attention, it is not simply WHAT you say but HOW you say it and this is the biggest point we realized after watching back our video letter. We needed to rethink how we present our video letter to the world.

“We could read the first and last parts together”
“When we read the last sentence we need to put in some kind of movement”
“How about when we say “the better” we open our arms downwards and when we say “we can change the world” we just throw them in the air!”

So that was the first and last part sorted and it was decided that the other parts could be split between everyone. Of course we also have to remember to speak in a loud clear voice and think about our facial expressions.

Our aim is not just to remember the English, but to really make sure our message remains in people’s hearts. Deciding how to line up and in what order to speak leads to some minor disagreements but everyone agrees that the “try it and see” method is the best way to proceed.

As everyone starts to plan out their presentation we could really see that they were all thinking deeply about the task at hand and making decisions for themselves.

After having to make, write and perform the letters and video letter themselves the English seems to have stuck pretty well, even if this was after a lot of hard work. The presentation practice was taken up but deciding how to perform the letter.

Please take a look at our theme presentation here

Normally the theme presentation means the end of one theme and the beginning of a new one, but this is not the case with Borderless World.

“When we get stamps we can stick them onto the map”
“Of course….”
“If nothing comes we could write more letters and send them to different places”

Everyone is thinking about what will happen from now.

“Let’s contact JOCS”

Everyone wanted to find out more about our chosen charity, JOCS, by visiting them and seeing for themselves what kind of work they are doing. The students wanted to ask lots of questions to someone from JOCS as well as get some advice about the project.

“It would be really nice if we could be friends with people who send us letters” said one student. We all agreed that it would be a great shame to simply exchange letters once and then not contact each other again; we all want to create a lasting relationship with those who send us stamps and letters. This could possibly turn out to be one of the biggest projects in TCS history!

Everyone even agreed that even after they graduate they hope their successors will continue on the project and continue to make the map and contribute to JOCS.

This is definitely not the end of the project but the beginning…may it flourish from here.

If you would like to send us some used stamps please send an email to school@tokyocs.org
