Unit Summary:

This Unit aims to explore the five main senses of sight, sound, smell, taste and touch by looking at our eyes, ears, nose, tongue, hands and feet. We will learn how these body parts have specific functions and see how our senses help us understand the world around us.

Often times, we use our senses unconsciously, but this Unit gives us an opportunity to mindfully use our senses and develop an appreciation for them. We will learn vocabulary that helps us express what we sense, such as “I can see/hear/smell/taste/feel”, along with names of things, such as “pencil” and “bird”.

Unit activities include constructing a human body throughout the weeks to develop an awareness of where our body parts are located, and exploring a particular sense each week through various settings that tingle that sense. At the end of the Unit, we will each present a sense along with our experiences with that sense.
