「From Farm to Table」

by TCS Int’l Preschool

【Life themes】社会寄与 Organizing our community

【Central idea】People have food systems (production, processing, distribution, consumption) that help them produce food for the communities.

〜Unit Summary(テーマ概要)

In the next six weeks, learners will embark on a journey to explore and deepen their understanding of food systems and its significance in our lives. They will begin by sharing their existing knowledge and thoughts about food. Through engaging activities like lunch box dissections, they will examine the ingredients in their daily meals and contemplate their origins. Moreover, the learners will have the chance to visit farms and participate in fruit/vegetable picking, allowing them to experience firsthand the process of food production and appreciate the various food systems that contribute to feeding their community. Practical application of their newfound knowledge will be emphasized, as learners will experiment with multiple ways of using the same ingredient, like blueberries or sweet potatoes. They will actively engage in activities such as fruit and vegetable picking, cleaning, cutting, and cooking. The ultimate culmination of their learning journey will be the creation of a play where they demonstrate the entire food preparation process. Through this experience, they will come to grasp that food is the result of human effort, from growing and harvesting to processing and cooking, and it plays a vital role in nourishing both individuals and communities.
